Woodbridge Township will serve as host to the NJ Senior Olympic games on September 10, 11 & 12, 2021. This is the 14th year that Woodbridge Township will welcome the statewide Senior Olympic competition. Last year’s games had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. Hopefully, the 2021 games, sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ, will be well attended.
New Jersey is home to a significant and growing senior population which is more and more engaged in an active and physically fit lifestyle. All CDC and/or NJDOH COVID-19 safety protocols that are in place and/or recommended for indoor/outdoor athletic venues will be followed. In order to follow CDC guidelines, the number of events has been reduced this year. Senior athletes 50 years of age and older, male or female, can compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze in various age categories: 50-54; 55-59; 60-64: 65-69; 70-74: 75-79; 80-84; 85-89; and 90+. The Olympic Games include competition in: Basketball Foul Shooting/Accuracy; Billiards; Bocce; Bowling; Cornhole; Darts; Golf; Horseshoes; Miniature Golf; Pickleball; Racquetball; Swimming; Table Tennis; Tennis and Track & Field. The NJ Senior Olympics is a member of the National Senior Games Association, which sponsors alternate year national Senior Olympic games at venues across the country. The next National Senior Games will be held in 2022 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Woodbridge Township offers Senior athletes a true, world-class competition venue with facilities at the Woodbridge High School stadium and athletic fields, JFK High School Tennis Center, Woodbridge Bowling Center, well-appointed municipal parks and recreation areas and excellent private venue facilities. The Woodbridge Community Center and The Club at Woodbridge provide a combination of multi-purpose recreational and sporting facilities, including a full-size gymnasium, Olympic-size swimming pool, roller skating rink, NHL-size ice skating and hockey rink, indoor tennis and racquetball courts, walking track, meeting rooms and lounge.
